WRITING AS THINKING
Cognitive Connections
As revealed in studies by Doug Reeves of the 90-90-90 schools, writing is a powerful lever for increasing student achievement. Writing with a focus on modeling and measuring thinking skills yields even higher student achievement than the traditional “writing across the curriculum.” In this workshop, teachers practice strategies of written metacognition and learn how to elicit deep student response through engaging, thoughtful activities. Participants will develop subject-specific Quick Writes based upon high-yield, metacognitive processes and imbedded qualities of engagement. Schools often provide teachers with the book Writing as Measure and Model of Thinking as the “handout” for these workshops and institutes.
